Burglary Suspect Arrested
Kalamazoo Man Arrested for Numerous Business Burglaries
Kalamazoo, MI:
Public Safety Officers were dispatched to the Family Dollar store at
1710 S. Westnedge St. on November 5th
2012 at 11:47pm on a burglary alarm. Officers
found the business broken into and the suspect had fled the scene. Moments later, PSOs
Marc Rifenberg, Greg Magnan and Sgt. Anthony Morgan located the suspect and he was
arrested and the stolen property recovered.
The suspect has been identified as Robert Lee Smith, age 45 of Kalamazoo.
Numerous gas station and convenience stores were targeted by Mr. Smith during the
month of October. Detectives interviewed Mr. Smith and in the course of the
investigation, he confessed to five additional business burglaries.
The other businesses burglarized were: The Cork Shell Station, The S. Westnedge Shell
Station, the Park St. Market, Paul’s Pantry and The Tobacco Store.
The property taken at the burglaries was primarily cigarettes. Mr. Smith will be charged
with the five additional burglaries.
