Kalamazoo, MI: On Thursday, December 20, 2012, at approximately 7:56 p.m., a citizen in the 1200 block of March Street called Kalamazoo Public Safety to report that her van was just stolen. The caller told officers that she had left her van running in the driveway while visiting friends. The caller heard the sound of squealing tires and saw her van speeding away.
The suspect drove the van eastbound on Lay Blvd at a high rate of speed causing a three block trail of destruction after colliding with three parked cars, multiple fences and a bicyclist. The vehicle was no longer drivable and the suspect fled the scene on foot. A Kalamazoo Public Safety K9 team responded and attempted a track, however the suspect was not located.
The twenty-one year old bicyclist was transported to Bronson Hospital by LIFE EMS with several non-life threatening injuries.
Kalamazoo Public Safety continues to investigate the incident. Anyone who may have information regarding this investigation is asked to call Kalamazoo Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
