Parking Violation Leads to Gun Seizure and Arrest

Kalamazoo, MI:  On Wednesday, November 28th, 2012 at 2250 hours, Public Safety Officer Ryan Shank made contact with two subjects sitting in a parked vehicle in the 400 block of Drexel Street.  The vehicle was parked in a No Parking area.  Upon contacting the driver of the vehicle, PSO Shank seized a small baggy of marijuana.  During a search of the vehicle a stolen .25 caliber handgun was located in the vehicle. 

 

Once officers located the weapon in the car, one of the two occupants fled on foot.  PSO Deblecourt and his K-9 partner, Jax tracked the suspect several blocks finally locating the suspect hiding under another vehicle in the 300 block of Norway Street.  The suspect is a 21-year-old Kalamazoo resident.  He was charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon (CCW), Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer (R&O), Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property, Felony Firearm, and Possession of Marijuana.  The second subject in the vehicle, a 45 year-old Kalamazoo resident stayed with the vehicle and did not attempt to flee.  He was released from the scene at the completion of the investigation.
