Kalamazoo, MI: On Thursday, January 10th 2013, at approximately 10:25 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to a report of a house fire in the 1500 block of N. Westnedge Ave.  Upon arrival, heavy smoke was found on the second story of the structure. Public Safety officers were able to extinguish and contain the fire to the second floor.  The two adult residents who were home at the time were not injured in the incident. The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal. Preliminary results of the investigation appear to be a mattress fire most likely caused by careless smoking.
