Suspect Arrested in Edison Neighborhood Shooting

Kalamazoo, MI: On Tuesday, November 13th, 2012 at approximately 8:17 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to several reports of gun shots in the Edison Neighborhood near the area of Race St. and Hays Park Ave. Officers responded to the area and did not locate any witnesses or victims of a shooting. Approximately two hours later at approximately 10:11 p.m., a 31 year-old Kalamazoo resident contacted Kalamazoo Public Safety and reported that he was the intended victim of the shooting. The male was not injured however the vehicle he was driving sustained damaged.


The victim reported to police that as he was diving eastbound in the 900 block of Hays Park Ave., he was approached by a male subject on foot to which he has had a long standing dispute with. Unprovoked, the suspect began shooting several rounds from a handgun at the victim striking his vehicle. Officers located two bullet holes in the victim’s vehicle along with six 9mm bullet casings at the scene.


Kalamazoo Public Safety officers were able to track down the suspect and arrest him without incident on the charge of assault with intent to commit murder. The suspect, a 19 year-old Kalamazoo resident,  was lodged at the Kalamazoo County jail pending review of this investigation by the prosecutor’s office.
